Huntersville Police Department Media Release Fatality Crash Investigation

On Tuesday, September 13, 2016 warrants were obtained against Kalvin Raquez McCollum, (DOB:  2/19/1999), charging him with Misdemeanor Death by Vehicle, Careless and Reckless Driving, and driving with No Operators License. These charges stemmed from Mr. McCollum’s actions on August 11, 2016, when he was the unlicensed driver of a motor vehicle that caused a vehicle collision, resulting in the death of a 14-year-old passenger.  The warrants were sought after a thorough investigation by the Huntersville Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section and after consultation with the Mecklenburg County District Attorney’s Office.   Mr. McCollum turned himself in to the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, was processed, and was subsequently released on a $5,000.00 bond.
